What are the HFS prerequisites?
Talent. That is something we cannot give you. You must submit an application for enrollment and wait to receive confirmation of offer.
What are the school business hours?
9 AM to 6 PM
What are the tuition hours?
Depending on the course and the stage of production, the normal class hours are 9 AM to 6 PM. However, during production you can expect to work long hours as per your call-sheet for each shooting day, whilst receiving on-the-set mentoring and coaching. Editors can logically expect to work very long hours during post-production.
Can I enroll in more than one course?
Yes, however it is your responsibility to ensure there are no time-table clashes. We would recommend you check prior to lodging an application form.
Can I enroll in the feature film course if I don't have prior film/acting education or experience?
Yes, anyone can enroll regardless of experience level. Our courses will help you prepare better for the auditions being conducted. Our goal is to help you succeed.
If I want to be a director, does enrolling in HFS guarantee me a director's credit?
No. You will have to audition and work towards gaining that role in the feature. Intensive training and practical exercises will be given as soon as the course starts prior to auditioning. Students as well as mentors and producers will have a say during the audition process in order to grant each role to the best qualified person. Whilst it's been said that most graduates from conventional film schools would have to earn their dues by sweeping studio floors, delivering mail or holding cables, at HFS the 50 students are the full cast and crew for the chosen feature film. That means all students will have meaningful roles and more than a fair chance to secure their desired key roles.
Do you accept international applications?
Of course, we are delighted to accept international applicants. However, we cannot assist with the relevant visa applications. You must contact the US Consulate in your country of residence.
Does HFS offer finance packages?
Yes, enrolled students who receive offers of acceptance can apply to pay their fees on interest free monthly terms. This represents a separate application for finance and is subject to approval. pre-requisites include US Permanent Residency status and good credit rating. What is the net cost to enroll in the Film Programs?
Course fees vary for each program. Some as low as $2400. In the Feature Film Course, you are paid for your time while on set, so you can significantly lower your overall course cost as you learn. Tuition costs covers everything including equipment, tapes, incidentals; the only things that are not covered are accommodation, catering and transportation.
Do tuition costs include accommodation & food for students outside LA?
No. Accommodation and catering would be additional expenses to those requiring them. The Studios are located in the heart of Hollywood in which rental accommodation is reasonably affordable. Depending on the number of students applying from places other than LA, we will try to negotiate with potential landlords for suitable and economic boarding and accommodation.
What type of equipment do students work with?
We work with HD Digital equipment, Apple editing suites, Final Cut, Pro Tools. We have great sound stages at the CBS Studio building, scenery sets, props, special access to professional costumes... all that you need to make a commercial feature film destined for national and international distribution.
How confident are you that HFS films will be shown in theaters?
We are extremely confident. We have a deal with a distribution company for at least limited domestic distribution of our films.
